Last night at figure drawing we had these two models, they were amazing. I thought that he had such a protective, gentle, loving attitude, and she also was able to portray an attitude of contemplation that was fun to paint. They did not know each other before the class-even more wow. She is four weeks away from delivery! He has children also, so maybe that helped him recall the "father to be" vibe. sigh- I love figure drawing. L.

Angel's Trumpet. Looks a little like a swishing ball gown, so beautiful, but deadly poisonous (I think). Painted this morning in my friend and neighbor Nicole's yard, so many things to paint there, little seating areas and of course a fabulous garden...I am going back! I included a photo of me starting this painting. My feild easel situation is not the best, I have a cheaply made french easel...am on the hunt for something better. If you know about anything great to paint outdoors with please tell me about it.

Figure drawing has started back up again- so fun. I try to experiment with different materials in this class. These two were my most successful sketches in oil; the one with the red background was my first, and I am not sure its finished, and yet I don't know what else to do...so I guess its finished>?

The guard at the Convention Center, Tony named this painting for me. I painted today with inspiring artists; Missy Patrick, Joanne Brandt, and Thayer Dodd. It was a great place to paint we were in the parking garage, which opens out onto a deck, so we had cover if it rained- which it was threatening do. The Mobile docks are a hustling and bustling place. I painted the dinner crusier The "Spirit of LaSalle". L.

What attracted me to this was the glass, which is a container from a french lemonade. My big still life is going to have lots and lots of glass. The cool color palatte of this painting seems contrary to what you might normally think of with flowers...I guess it could have also been named Artic flower.

I have to get into a watercolor mode. I have these watercolor crayons that are so great, so I was just playing around with them. This is on paper that Mary E. Kimbrough brought to me from France last year, its an unusual size, but with a mat around it I think it could be a non- custom frame.

These flowers remind me of a bouquet that I carried in my friend Eva's wedding a long time ago. A friend gave me this bunch of ' found flowers' yesterday, and the mums too...how nice! Excellent painting a day fodder, plus the enjoyment of having them in my house. Thank you friend!!!

You know...I try to buy fresh flowers on a regular basis...it makes me totally happy to see them...well totally happy for that second that I am gazing at them~!

Key limes and Fall Mums. This is part of a larger still life that I am working on, which is my new plan; to paint 'painting a day' s and concurrently work on a large still life. This painting is on gessoed board. The gesso is from Daniel Smith, an art supplier, its already tinted with pigment, which in this case is yellow ochre. I love painting on a hard and smooth surface, the paint sits up so well, and is so much more obedient somehow.

This morning I met up with some fellow painters at McDuffy Park. We painted the sail boats docked in the marina. It was REALLY FUN!! Joanne Brandt and Jamie Buck were the talented Artists with whom I had the pleasure of working with today. We were right across from the Buccaneer Yacht Club...it was quite a beautiful day. Something I noticed, that I haven't before, was that the clouds came rolling in as the day progressed..is that the way it always works? L.

Whenever I hear the words "True Love" it makes me think of the movie "The Princess Bride". What a great movie! Highlights on red roses were the challenge today, trying to paint what I really see before me. Well I am happy with this result, it escapes the ' plate of spagetti' look that threatens with lots of like colors and shapes piled up....maybe just barely!

When I was in College, I had a sort of love affair with Cobalt blue, my palette had very few colors; raw umber, burnt sienna, yellow ochre , titanium white, and cobalt blue. I haven't used it much lately as I have been more involved with magnesium blue, which when mixed with white becomes dirty sky blue. Today, out of pure frustration, I outlined with black, an almost taboo act...oh well, it made me feel better about this painting. L.

If you want someone to say 'yes' give them roses to soften them up...works like a charm! You might want to research color choice though as my Mother used to turn her nose up to red roses... she felt that yellow went so much better with her decor!

The top paintings are a little larger than my daily paintings and will be at the Chesser this weekend.

Mums and persimmons, two great Fall items. The mums have so many more colors than at first glance. I did this one and then another larger version which will be available at the Mobile Botanical Garden s fall sale in conjunction with Chesser studio project during LODA this Friday. Several artists work will be available. The show is titled "Lea-ving" some of the artists involved are: Julie Day, Mary Elizabeth Kimbrough, Vikki Turner Finch, Wayne McNeil, Rachel Wright, Kate Seawell, and Val Webb. Part of the sale of each art piece will go to the Botanical Gardens... If you haven't been out there ...do- its beautiful! Barlett pears are so warm and golden with the greenish yellow undertones. Pears are so good this time of year: I like these chilled and sliced thin. I feel that I accidentally have sort of a 'mardi gras' color scheme going in this painting. Oh well :)

This is my painting from yesterday at Five Rivers. Every direction that you look from the point where we were set up...you can see this same sort of veiw. I decided to try this with the city-scape behind the natural. I am not sure why this painting is so different from my usual landscapes, but it is. I think it is sort of happier colors than I usually go for...well maybe.
