Tuscan Lunch. Lydia Host 8x8
sold
Wouldn't we all love to have this veiw for our lunch time? I have been to Italy one time, Florence, and Milan, and it was grand. Tuscany is a goal for the future. My Parents went to a cooking school for a week, and learned all sorts of delicious things and had this sort of incredible veiw daily. I enjoyed painting and dreaming today. L.Friday, July 10, 2009

Baby eggplants.Lydia Host daily painting a day 8x8
sold
I painted these baby eggplants with Mary Elizabeth this morning. I was going to go Plein aire painting this morning, but woke up feeling yucky, so this just seemed the easier route. I am always happy when my paintings look like paintings, if that makes any sense! This one seemed to flow off the brush which I really needed today.

Don't be humble.Lydia Host daily painting a day 8x8
I am painting a REALLY large version of these flowers also (32x48). So in a way this one is my study for the larger piece, although I started the big one first. I really enjoyed toying with the size of objects in my paintings last week, and so am continuing along that line. For me the negative spaces or back ground, is just as important in this painting as the primary focus. The flowers seem sort of 'braced' with in the frame of the painting. When I finish biggie, I'll post it.

chewy life.Lydia Host daily painting a day 6x6
Yeah, well I used to smoke, now I just eat more candy when I am a little stressed. Chewy Lifesavers are not on my regular rotation (I prefer Red hots or some dark chocolate)but these were really good..nice bouncy but not sticky texture. As for painting them, I enjoyed the transparency and variation of color even within each piece. Also sticking with my 'larger than life size ' food theme from yesterday.

Swell bouquet.Lydia Host daily painting a day 8x8
Ah ...happy day! Mary Elizabeth has returned from her studies in Europe, and today we painted together while her niece and my son played! My lovely neighbors provided the inspirational matter. We are going through a non-napping phase here ...which has "cramped my painting -a-day style" so today was double lucky.

Marina II.Lydia Host daily painting a day 6x8
I couldn't help myself. Having too much fun with boats and their reflections. The Circus is in town! This morning we went to see the elephants have a brunch, I thought I'd share an image of this with you as it was completely charming, although hot as hell.

Marina.Lydia Host daily painting a day 6x6
I am working on a commission of boats, and so I went to the marina today to take some photographs as it is really too hot to paint in full sun right now (97 today). I was thinking how charming and alluring the sailboats looked docked in their spaces....and I wondered what feelings a row of cars painted might evoke. Is it the promise of the wind in your hair and salty air beckoning you to sail away...?? Maybe a row of motorcycles or convertibles?
