Fish day. Lydia Host daily painting a day 6x6

SOLD
How exciting to paint a fish. At first I felt sorry for it, but Mary Elizabeth pointed out that we were memorializing it....so all better! Lacking any silver oil paint, it was fun to try and capture the shiny scale-y -ness of it. And, well.... its dour expression was sort of a winning point as well. hurray for the fish. L.

Little Sister. Lydia Host daily painting a day 6x6

SOLD
Little sister to yesterday's big version of this painting. The white flowers just are a challenge to make glow...somehow I am closer here.
I started daily painting in June this year as a summer experiment, and I have had such a blast that I am officially committing to keep it up til June of 2009...then we'll see. I haven't even painted things that were on my list to paint back in June, and I've added so many more. On so many levels it is improving me. Its the most fun I've had painting since I was a little girl...I can't stop now! L.

My sister-in-law Tracy came and painted with me today...we had fun chatting and painting away. Its like having coffe with a friend, but you get to leave with a prize. L.

Svelte. Lydia Host daily painting a day 6x6

SOLD
This painting started about the peaches and became about the glass urn. If you haven't eaten a peach lately...do it!!! L.
P.S. I've decided that I really don't like the way that "buy now" looks...takes away some of the fun of ebay actually. So I am rejecting yesterday's idea.

Stir Fry. Lydia Host daily painting a day 6x6

SOLD
I like to paint onions in watercolor, but for some reason have seldom painted them in oil. They are so translucent and watercolor just is made to paint translucently. They have such a subtle mix of color, from pale green to orange-ish. I have started something today to help people buy my work who don't want to mess with ebay bidding...a buy it now price, figured it was worth a try. I guess the procedure to avoid ebay would be to email me directly, and I will pull it from the listings! L.

Last Hurrah. Lydia Host daily painting a day 6x6

SOLD
This is one of those miniature seedless watermelons. I love eating blueberries, watermelon with a squeeze of lime juice. There is a salad that I plan to make every year for about the last three years that involves feta cheese with watermelon and limejuice.... I found the watermelon more interesting to paint than anticipated, that weird texture and the variation in color is a challenge. I think I will try again. L.

.Variations. Lydia Host daily painting a day 6x6

SOLD
One of the great things about sunflowers is that they last a long time as a cut flower! They are interesting to paint in part because they have such personality. I like that purple plant as a contrast to the super yellow. L.

For kids. Lydia Host daily painting a day 6x6

SOLD Did you ever grow sunflowers as a kid? Me either...but I have planted them for/with my kids. They are such happy flowers..sort of flouncy and outrageous. Bigger than all the others around them...they don't care! L.

Party Party whoohoo. Lydia Host Daily painting a day

SOLD I guess I am thinking about my sons returning to school, and how happy they are to meet up with friends missed over the summer. Demonstrative cherries....hmmm wish I'd used that one, and perhaps I will! Ha -don't think I am done with cherries yet. L.

Hippies. Lydia Host daily painting a day

SOLD I love to paint and eat pears. Its weird how many shades of red there are upon close inspection. The blue reflections on the pears, from the window in my studio kind of created a nice counter-point of color. L.

Cherry Parfait. Lydia Host Daily painting a day

SOLD Is life a bowl full of cherries? I think I read that book by Erma Bombeck years ago...and it was funny, still I can't remember how life relates to cherries. But they are so very attractive, and for me they symbolize summer relaxation. I want mention another painter-a-day-er whose work you'll like to look at, my sister-in-law Tracy Host has been painting extremely cool abstract paintings lately...check em out! L.

Transitional Pecans. Lydia Host Daily painting a day

SOLD
Took pictures from the back seat of sister's speeding car, while speeding to sister weekend in Gulf Shores Al. Pecan groves galore on the way....look totally different with leaves, not nearly as geo-desical (made that up I think), or as desolately inspiring! L.

Fancy weed. Lydia Host Daily painting a day

Double bonus today!
I painted the bellpeppers on Sunday. Today my friend and really excellent artist Mary Elizabeth Kimbrough came and painted with me, she brought along the fancy weed that she couldn't remember the name of. Its fun to paint and chat, so often as an artist working life is very solitary (which suits me most of the time).
MEK is going to start doing a painting a day soon ..I'll put a link to her when she has work available on line...you'll love it.

Sublime. Lydia Host Daily painting a day

Its weird, but I like this painting of limes SO much better than the other this week. I think it has to do with my current love for painting glass. The reflections and distortions are just really fun to try and capture.
