Greenbrier latte. Lydia Host Daily painting a day

Part of our fabulous trip to West Virginia, was a visit to the swanky Greenbrier Resort.
One of very few Five star resorts in the U.S. (well actually it just got downgraded to a four).
Dorthy Parker was the major decorator of the space and its really worth a look. Also the famous Bunker is hidden there.

Versailles cherubs. Lydia Host

Lately I've been thinking about being in Paris. I pulled out some photos of Versailles fountain sculpture. Sigh. I painted these today in a mad rush.

The long walk. Lydia Host Daily painting a day

Its not really that far...it just seems like it when its a hundred million degrees. Oh - and you are dragging a billion pounds of activities and survival gear. Its worth the walk every time though.

I painted this while sitting under the rented beach house in Gulf Shores.

Big Dreams. Lydia Host Daily painting a day

This is a photo of a friends little girl, taken but not used for a big portrait. Just playing around...in reality the hair is not so blue...camera and monitor issues I guess.

Askew. Lydia Host Daily painting a day

I had wanted to paint these blackeyed susans while they were at the fullest bloom. I felt bad for this one...so fabulous, and still pretty, just a little worn out.

baby dreams. Lydia Host Daily painting a day

http://stores.ebay.com/lydiahostdailypaintings

Some old baby rattles. Heirloom toys that you imagine your cute chubby baby playing with...dressed in white cotton clothing...but they always prefer the not as picturesque bright modern baby toys...or wooden spoons.

Blenko vase. Lydia Host Daily painting a day 6x6

My cousin Carol in West Virginia gave me this Blenko vase to paint. I didn't get to go to the shop where they make these pieces....next trip! Obivously I didn't get to paint much while in West Virginia. There were no opportunities for me upload or post paintings! arrggh.

It was a very rigorous journey. Can you imagine we spent every other day on a giant tour bus (we did get off a lot) with a very active 2 year old? With forty assorted family members. We are so exhausted from our vacation. But it was like a National Geographic tour....we LEARNED about W. V......and it is a very interesting and beautiful state. I am so glad that my Dad got the hell out of there though! Coal mining was/is a hard life. I have new found respect for all of the men who do that...did you know that they we laying on their side in mines about three feet tall ?.... for 12 hours? ( well in drift mines that is).

Glad to be home.

Peaked. Lydia Host daily paintings.

Some would say these bannas are at they're peak. I think its a matter of your perspective...I prefer younger, firmer bannas....sorry but its true.

Separation Anxiety. Lydia Host daily painting.

I had to laugh when I set this still life up the twin cherries were connected...but they let go..uneasily! They just seem nervous to me somehow. Love to eat cherries and read a good book.

So Bosc-y Lydia Host Painting a day

Pears are so much fun to paint. They have such femine curviness...bit of attitude...can't go wrong.

I am going out of town for a week, and am going to try to keep going from a distance. We are going to West Virginia which should provide lots of painting inspiration.

Your'e extremely hot. Lydia Host oil painting a day

The only words I could read on the bottom of the cup were "your'e extremely hot" the part about ' the beverage you are about to enjoy' was hidden from view...hee hee hee. sigh.
I hope the Starbucks close to me (or you) isn't one of the 600 being shut down.

lovely randomness. Lydia Host oil painting a day 6x6

A random grab from the "big Bag" never enough. I decided to paint a weakness... I brought them along to the studio to eat while painting...and decided to paint them. Bare compositions are much more difficult than you might think...had to go buy a tiny brush.

Bay House. Lydia Host oil painting a day 6x6

It's possible that this cup was lifted from my former in-laws beach house...or plucked out of my friend Janet's period kitchen..cast off harvest gold from the 70's. Super hot coffee that tastes a little weird.
