baby dreams. Lydia Host Daily painting a day

http://stores.ebay.com/lydiahostdailypaintings

Some old baby rattles. Heirloom toys that you imagine your cute chubby baby playing with...dressed in white cotton clothing...but they always prefer the not as picturesque bright modern baby toys...or wooden spoons.

Blenko vase. Lydia Host Daily painting a day 6x6

My cousin Carol in West Virginia gave me this Blenko vase to paint. I didn't get to go to the shop where they make these pieces....next trip! Obivously I didn't get to paint much while in West Virginia. There were no opportunities for me upload or post paintings! arrggh.

It was a very rigorous journey. Can you imagine we spent every other day on a giant tour bus (we did get off a lot) with a very active 2 year old? With forty assorted family members. We are so exhausted from our vacation. But it was like a National Geographic tour....we LEARNED about W. V......and it is a very interesting and beautiful state. I am so glad that my Dad got the hell out of there though! Coal mining was/is a hard life. I have new found respect for all of the men who do that...did you know that they we laying on their side in mines about three feet tall ?.... for 12 hours? ( well in drift mines that is).

Glad to be home.

Peaked. Lydia Host daily paintings.

Some would say these bannas are at they're peak. I think its a matter of your perspective...I prefer younger, firmer bannas....sorry but its true.

Separation Anxiety. Lydia Host daily painting.

I had to laugh when I set this still life up the twin cherries were connected...but they let go..uneasily! They just seem nervous to me somehow. Love to eat cherries and read a good book.

So Bosc-y Lydia Host Painting a day

Pears are so much fun to paint. They have such femine curviness...bit of attitude...can't go wrong.

I am going out of town for a week, and am going to try to keep going from a distance. We are going to West Virginia which should provide lots of painting inspiration.

Bought a set of china that looked good to me at a garage sale when I lived on Whittier St. in California. It still looks good to me twenty years later!

Your'e extremely hot. Lydia Host oil painting a day

The only words I could read on the bottom of the cup were "your'e extremely hot" the part about ' the beverage you are about to enjoy' was hidden from view...hee hee hee. sigh.
I hope the Starbucks close to me (or you) isn't one of the 600 being shut down.

lovely randomness. Lydia Host oil painting a day 6x6

A random grab from the "big Bag" never enough. I decided to paint a weakness... I brought them along to the studio to eat while painting...and decided to paint them. Bare compositions are much more difficult than you might think...had to go buy a tiny brush.

Bay House. Lydia Host oil painting a day 6x6

It's possible that this cup was lifted from my former in-laws beach house...or plucked out of my friend Janet's period kitchen..cast off harvest gold from the 70's. Super hot coffee that tastes a little weird.

Coffee and Sympathy. Lydia Host oil on canvas 6x6.

I bought this little cup and saucer in Paris!!! wow - I had to buy a coffee maker and cups to drink out of in my little room. The other cup broke...they were from the equivalent of the 'Al's 5& 10' so I guess I'm lucky to have one still. There is a coffee shop in Venice beach Ca. called 'Coffee and sympathy' and I just have always loved that name ...two things one should never be without.

Accouterment. Lydia Host oil painting a day 6x6 in.

I just love this little set. It has a sort of old fashioned charm. Lost the lid to the suger...or it broke, a long time ago...still use them...when I have guests that require the extras for their coffee.

Gossip 101. Lydia Host oil painting a day 6x6 in.

This was my favorite cup for coffee for years...just your average coffee shop type of mug. Now my husband makes coffee cups and his are my absolute favorites...bigger, cozier, one-of-akind. I still love these cups though, they remind me of more than good coffee; good conversations. I want to wrap my hands around it and hunch forward to hear all about whatever is going on!
cheers.

L.W.fuzz. Lydia Host oil painting a day 6x6 in.

A Friend brought me some inspiration. Really didn't do it justice today...oh well.

I painted just a giant strawberry today also...it looked like maybe Finn was in the studio with me! I think I am going to search out some "good" strawberry paintings and see how they did it...many times they just end up looking 'folky'. If you find one...send it my way.

This is the last of the the first picked. I am really enjoying painting thease flowers! Went out and bought my own plant...summer supply. Haven't ever been a big pink person...so its strange, but am intrigued by the variety of pink tones I am developing, and none seem to be the exact color that I am after. Try try again!

Cherry Lemonade. Lydia Host painting a day 6x6

I love cherry lemonade in the summer! Delicious anytime actually. Maybe I'll paint it in a tall cool glass next.
A friend wrote to me and said she could tell I was painting my supper everyday. I wonder how meatloaf would look? :)

head shot. Lydia host

I thought I would show what I was up to last week when I only had two paintings posted...this one counts for three days! These are little (12x12) paintings that I do fairly often, great for documenting kids artistically without a giant portrait, and with out the giant expense. I love doing them. For those of you who know me....this is not Finn!

Flower Power Lydia Host painting a day. oil on board 6x6

I am actually having a hard time mixing pinks that seem to be just right. So this is working out to be more challenging and muscle flexing brain-wise than I thought it would be. This is good!
