Tuscan veiw. Lydia Host daily painting a day 6x6

Another dream! I am going to spend a summer there sometime in my life...
I want to share with you that I won an award in the Watercolor and Graphic Arts Society show;
Its sort of a funny story that I feel compelled to tell! Well... I am a cheapskate and try to reuse matt's and frames from previous paintings if they did not sell. In this case I painted on watercolor board which is about a quarter of an inch thick and impossible without correct tools to cut. I found a frame and matt that worked perfectly (without any cutting or expenditure), but the matt was like ten inches wide...normal is between 3 and 4 inches. I emailed a couple of honest friends to ask if it looked too ridiculous..."Oh not really, its a matter of taste' and ' you should redo it' were the replies, I went with the first. WELL the judge's comment for me was that I should re-do the framing, and I was told the award that I won was a credit to a local frame shop! Instant Karma at work. As it turned out I really won a credit to a local art supply store, which makes me happier, but I still am sufficiently humiliated to never put anything in a show that I feel is questionable!
Happy Labor day!
L.

Just having read your commentary about the Cynthia portrait and the judge's comments re-emphasizes the beauty of your artwork - the framing and matting concerns were not sufficient to distract the judge from presentin your well-deserved award for a beautifully rendered portrait! But I can also relate to the temptation to re-use and save money on the framing! Been there!
